What is it?
The Special Education Advisory Committee is a group of special education teachers and parents who meet with the Director of Special Education and the Special Education Department Chair approximately once per quarter during the school year. Special meetings are called when necessary.
What is the Purpose?
The purpose of the committee is to enhance understanding of special education functions and services, to discuss current issues, to provide for community input into the special education process, and to assist in recommending program direction.
How is Membership Determined?
Attempts are made to have teacher and parent representatives from each building and from a variety of Special Education areas. Members volunteer or existing members actively seek new members. Most participants serve two to three year terms.
The Special Education categorical areas recognized by the state of Wisconsin include: specific learning disability, emotional behavioral disability, speech/language impairment, cognitive disability, traumatic brain injury, autism, visual impairment, hearing impairment, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, and significant developmental delay.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Special Education Advisory Committee is to establish and maintain a working partnership between the parents and teachers of students with special education needs so that student needs can be better met.
The committee is committed to working together to insure that all students have opportunities to be successful and productive individuals in their homes, in their schools, and in their community.
