Intermediate School Horizons
Goal/Purpose:
This program has four components focusing on: character education, alcohol and drug resistance education, parent education and academic support.
Nature of Students:
Students in this program may need support in one or more of the following areas:
Social skills
School engagement/home school connection
Making positive life choices
Academic support
Number of Students Served:
This program can serve up to fifteen 6th grade students.
Services Provided:
Academic support in the regular classroom via team teaching
Daily homeroom with Horizons teacher
Frequent home/school communication
Adaptation of content or delivery when/where appropriate
Service learning projects
Involvement of cross-age tutoring and community volunteers
Thursday After School Club
Alcohol and drug resistance education
Bi-monthly family nights
Developmental asset framework
Middle School Horizons
Goal/Purpose:
This program provides academic support for selected 7th and 8th grade students.
The purpose is to provide support to foster academic success and build skills for independence.
Nature of Students:
This program is designed for students needing extra support in the following areas:
Academic skills
Study skills
Motivation
Work completion
Organization
Number of Students Served:
A maximum of 25 7th and 8th graders are chosen for this program.
Services Provided:
Asset building and resiliency leadership skills
Service learning
Social skills development
Study skills/note-taking skills/test-taking skills
Transition - Self advocacy skill development
Collaboration between Horizons and core teachers to foster success
Daily resource hour with Horizons teacher focusing on work completion and reinforcement of lessons
Home/school communication

High School ALP
(Active Learning Program)
Goal/Purpose:
To assist students with academic and behavioral skills that will lead to positive choices and graduation from high school.
Definition:
The ALP program has two main components:
ALP class is where students receive credit for active participation in units such as study, test taking, communication, organizational and decision-making skills.
ALP resource is where students have access to teacher support and feedback with academic skills.
Nature of Students:
Students are typically underachievers who may be credit deficient, in need of academic skill remediation, meet the state requirements for a student "at-risk," or want/need additional help with homework, reading or test taking.
Number of Students:
20 to 25 students take the class (mainly freshmen)
Approximately 45-55 students receive resource services from the program
Services Provided:
Regular monitoring of student progress in classes
Staffings regarding student academic and behavioral progress
Continuous communication with parents/guardians
Structured resource study halls
Units focused on succeeding in the high school environment and beyond
