7th Grade Reading and Writing Workshop

 

Criteria for placement of 6th grade students going into 7th grade:

MAP Language

MAZE

ORF

WKCE Reading

1.      The three most recent MAP reading and language scores will be analyzed to identify students with scores at or below 212 in reading and/or language usage and to analyze trends.

2.      Most recent MAZE data will be analyzed to identify students with scores at or below 26.

3.      Most recent ORF data will be analyzed to identify students with scores at or below 124.

4.      SRI scores will be reviewed if a score is available. If an SRI score is not available but the data is needed for placement, this assessment will be administered at the intermediate school.

5.      The WKCE reading score will be used as another data point.

 

 

8th Grade Reading and Writing Workshop

Course Description

 

The Reading and Writing Workshop focuses on building students' reading and writing skills.  In addition, organizational and test-taking skills will be taught and practiced.  Students will utilize reading strategies to comprehend texts representing a variety of genres.  Through self-selected reading, students will successfully select books that help them build skills in the areas of: comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and critical literacy.  Language usage will be addressed through differentiated instruction based on students' needs.

 

 9th Grade Reading and Writing Workshop

Entrance Criteria

MAP Language Usage score less than or equal to 217

MAP Reading score less than or equal to 218

EXPLORE English score of less than 12

EXPLORE Reading score of less than 12

 

Course Description

The 9th grade Reading and Writing Workshop is a class with a specific literacy-based curriculum that focuses on direct instruction of reading and writing strategies that will support student learning in all content areas.  In addition, the class focuses on other topics such as test preparation, independent reading, study skills, and time management.
