Music Theory Links & Games

Music Theory Links: these links take you to web-based programs to help build your music reading skills.  Always go to "Settings" first to set the rules---your clef, the difficulty level, etc.

Basic Note Reading Drills: great basic drills to help you learn note names in your clef.  Be sure to go to "Settings" first to set your clef. Drag the notes up/down to set what note you need to drill. Speed Note Reading Drills: Identify notes sliding across the staff before they disappear into oblivion! This is a fun way to quickly learn the grand staff once you have gained a general familiarity with it. Key Signature Drills: Identify key signatures that appear on the grand staff by clicking on-screen buttons with the mouse. You can determine whether the key is major or minor by listening to a chord, listening to a scale, or simply being told.  Also tests if you know the relative major/minor. Scales Drills: Strengthen your knowledge and understanding of scales by building them one note at a time on the staff.

Brass Fingerings Trainer: great for trumpet and trombone.  Use the settings tabs on the right to choose the instrument and difficulty.  Follow the directions on screen closely.
