Percussion students in the Waunakee MS & HS Band Programs are fortunate to have a unique opportunity: an optional Percussion Club that prepares a large-scale percussion ensemble at the December Middle School Band Concert and High School Band Concert. The Waunakee Percussion Club is led by Paul Meese, a Waunakee Band Parent, Board of Education member, and percussionist.
This club rehearses in the mornings before school (7:15-8:00 am) during October and November. There are a limited number of rehearsals, so attendance is closely monitored. In addition to learning a complex piece of music, students must also learn how to play new instruments, memorize their music, and learn the choreography & staging for their part. Percussion Club members come from both the Middle School and High School Bands; this cross age aspect is one of the strengths of the program. Leadership, personal responsibility and teamwork are strong components of this activity. Waunakee Schools Percussion Club is an optional activity.
