We finish our school year with investigating the "insides" of our planet and how this relates to the events, both positive and negative, we witness on the surface of the earth. The geology unit introduces students to the topic by grabbing their attention with a Discovery Channel movie about a potential super volcano under Yellowstone National Park. Later, students pretend to be a journalist warning the public of another super eruption, the science behind it, and its dangers. Use the above link to visit a page with important information and links that will be used during the geology unit. |

To finish the school year, we take students away from Earth's surface and into space! They receive a quick "sprinkling" of astronomy, focusing mainly on the Earth and moon as a system. However, we do briefly discuss our place in the solar system, galaxy, and universe. Use the link above to visit the main astronomy web page, which contains several helpful and interesting links. |
