TATU is a tobacco peer education program designed by the American Lung Association to help teens develop strong leadership skills while teaching younger children to live tobacco-free lifestyles. TATU groups are present in many schools throughout Dane County. Youth participate in a two and a half hour training to become peer educators. Members learn the necessary skills to give informational and interactive presentations to their student peers. As a result of being a TATU member, students:
- Understand their vital role in shaping the attitudes of young children
- Increase their self-confidence and self-esteem through community service as teachers and student advocates.
- Gain experience and leadership skills that will help them as adults.
