Grading Practice for Math (As per math department):
Student’s grades will be figured on the following weighted grading scale:
                        20%- Skills Checks
                        35%- Quizzes
                        45%- Tests

Homework will be given almost everyday. It is important that students complete this homework. The work done in class and at home is directly related to the tests and quizzes. Homework is considered to be work that the students have completed by themselves and not in groups. Class work will not be part of their grade. Homework will be recorded as complete (Done) or incomplete (Inc), but will not be given a numerical value.

Skills Checks will be given on a weekly basis to determine the level of understanding of the homework. These will be marked and recorded in the grade book. They are a great way to prepare students for quizzes and tests.

Unit Tests and Quizzes will be directly related to the class work and homework. This is why it is advised that the students do their best and complete the assigned work. We will prepare for all tests in advance to relieve students from test anxiety.

Grading Scale -
            A         90-100
            B          80-89
            C         70-79
            D         60-69
            F          50-59

Expectations are high, but not out of reach. I want all students to learn and succeed.

Classroom rules:
These rules are simple and are expected to be followed by everyone. Appropriate consequences will be given for failure to follow them.
1.    SHOW RESPECT: Respect yourself, your classmates, your teacher, and your environment.

2.    BE PREPARED: Bring your books, materials, and completed assignments to class. Be ready to start class on time.

3.    PARTICPATE IN A POSITIVE MANNER: Take part in class activities and discussions.
Help your classmates and your teacher. Do not interfere with your classmates’ learning.

4.    DO YOUR BEST: Learn something new each and everyday you are in school.

Materials that will be needed for every class are: completed homework, one-inch three ring binder, binder dividers, calculator, loose leaf notebook paper, pens (not black), pencils, and graph paper.

It is an expectation and a necessity that students bring all materials to class every single day. When students need to go to their lockers to get forgotten items or if they do not have all of their materials, they lose valuable learning time and cannot be as effective.

Ways to Help Your Child Survive Math:

The more your child can explain to you the better.  Some suggestions I have to help your child succeed on math at home are as follows:

1.     Have a quiet place to do homework. I suggest the dining room table so the family can help if needed.

2.     If your child is stuck on a problem do the following:
·        Ask to see his/her notes from class.
·        Ask him/her to explain what was taught in class.
·        Ask what they do not get.
·        Ask him/her if there is someone in the class they could call for help.

3.     If you are still having trouble on the homework, you can try the following:
·        Your child can receive extra help during homeroom.
·        Your child can receive extra help during lunch.
·        Your child can come in before school for additional help. I am usually here by 7:45 a.m.
·        Your child can see me after school.

By working together, I know we will all have a successful year.
