Students learned about the Russian abstract painter Wassily Kandinsky before beginning this project. They discussed images by Kandinsky in small groups, reviewed the elements of art, and made preliminary sketches. Their goal was to create an abstract watercolor painting that represents a specific type of music without using recognizable objects in their painting. Instead they focussed on how line, shape, color and texture could create the mood of their chosen style of music. It was great to see the wide range music portrayed by students. Can you pick out examples of classical, country, punk, pop, and rock music?
