Seventh grade students spent a lot of time drawing from observation when preparing for this project. They made blind contours of each others shoes. Students enjoyed standing on the tables when they were modeling! Students also discussed value and practiced stippling, hatching, and crosshatching with pen and ink.
The background designs were taken from student research of textiles from other countries. The ribbon flowing through the hands symbolize how we are all connected; it ties countries together and unites them through their textile traditions.
This lesson was inspired by Bunki Kramer of Los Cerros MS in California.
