This project began with a discussion of contour line. Students practiced making blind contour drawings of a partner's shoe. This was especially fun because they took turns standing on the tables and it was interesting to see how crazy the drawings turned out since they could not look at our paper until they were done. They also practiced making contour line drawings of their hands.
Once comfortable with contour lines, students choose and object and drew it from four different angles. These drawings were turned, overlapped, enlarged, and repeated to create an interesting composition. The completed drawings were then ready for painting!
Having already created Motif Color Wheels, students are experienced color mixers. They pushed their color knowledge even further by learning about various color schemes. Each "Funky Object" needed to be painted according to a specific color scheme. Finished paintings were outlined, cut out, and glued onto colorful backgrounds.
