Students learned about the tessellations of MC Escher before starting this drawing. They looked at slides of mosaics that Escher studied in Spain, and dozens of Escher's drawings. Students drew three half faces on an equilateral triangle and they tried to think of a theme or way the faces could be connected. Then they chose to trace the faces to create a large hexagon (or other shape of their choise), remembering to flip it each time to create mirror images. Colored pencils were used to complete the drawing.
