Students were introduced to bestiaries made by artists and craftsmen in Medieval Europe. They viewed slides of actual examples, and examined a couple of modern children's books that shared similar features. (Books included Scranimals by Jack Prelutsky and Bestiary: An Illuminated Alphabet of Medieval Beasts by Jonathan Hunt.)
The creatures were designed and visual texture was added using pen and ink. Colored pencils and gel pens provided the final touch.
