Käthe Kollwitz was a German artist who created paintings, prints, drawings, and sculptures of the poverty and hardship in Berlin during the early part of the 20th Century. She was a social activist and wanted to express the suffering she saw around her.
Students brainstormed social issues that plague society today and created a relief print that reflected an issue they felt strongly about. As an extension, students completed a writing assignment explaining the significance of their issue and why they chose it.
