PSAT Registration Form
The PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. This is an optional test that provides juniors the chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation Scholarship programs. National Merit Scholars represent the top 1% of graduating seniors across the nation. Sophomores may choose to take the PSAT but they are not eligible for the National Merit Scholarship Competition. They must retake the PSAT their junior year to be eligible for the competition. Students may take the PSAT for the first time as a junior. In addition, this test prepares students to take the SAT. The SAT is a college admission test used for schools located on the East & West coasts. Detailed information about the PSAT can be obtained through their website at www.collegeboard.com/psat
The PSAT will be given at Waunakee Community High School on Wednesday morning, October 12th (A-day) during 1st & 2nd blocks. If your child is interested in taking this test, have your child complete the registration form & bring a check (no cash) written to Waunakee High School for $14.00 to the counseling office beginning Monday, September 26 through Wednesday, October 5. When they register, they will receive a test prep booklet along with information about testing day.
For clarification: This is not the ACT which is a test required for four year college admission in the Midwest as well as specific programs at MATC. Your junior student took the PLAN test during their sophomore year to prepare for the ACT. Juniors typically take the ACT during the spring of their junior year. The ACT is not administered at Waunakee High School.
If you have questions, please call the counseling office @ 849-2115.
