Waunakee Green and Healthy Schools Initiative
Are you interested in helping our school become a healthier, more productive learning environment? Would you like to see a more sustainable Earth by reducing our school's ecological "footprint"? If so, we want YOU to join our Green team!
In the fall of 2010, students, staff and community members at Waunakee High School began the Wisconsin Green and Healthy Schools Initiative. Sponsored by the Wisconsin DPI and DNR, this program helps schools self-identify areas that need improvement by conducting detailed assessments of the following areas:
|
Required |
Optional (school chooses two) |
-
Waste & Recycling
-
Energy
-
Water
-
School Facilities & Grounds
-
Healthy Lifestyle
|
-
Transportation
-
Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)
-
Chemical & Mercury Management
-
Integrated Pest Management (IPM)
-
Community Involvement
|
The Green Team has now completed these assessments and is in the process of identifying areas that need improvement. We hope to begin implementing our action plans in the fall of 2011. We will need lots of help from individual students, organizations and clubs, and community members to begin making school-wide changes to become a healthier and greener school.
