Safety Policies/Procedures for staff include:
Clean Sweep Procedures
- Staff members who have school/classroom items that need to be disposed of using clean sweep procedures are asked to notify the building level custodian to remove the items from the classroom/lab.
- Please CLEARLY MARK the items if they are not in their original container.
- Please attach copies of Material Safety Data Sheets for the products or items.
Our custodial and maintenance folks are happy to support our efforts, but they must have accurate information on the product/item to store and dispose properly.
Our nursing staff collects prescription medications that are left in school offices (not taken home by parents/guardians) and the staff dispose items in accordance with local, county, and state regulations.
Some additional, easy to address safety reminders:
- Items may not be stored on top of cabinets where this arrangement results in the items being within three feet of the visible ceiling.
- Only 20% of wall space in classrooms may have paper/display items (this does not include bulletin boards).
- Flammable items (e.g., paper, cardboard) items may not be hung from ceilings.
- Windows may not be covered with covering other than what was installed with the building.
- Electrical cords should not be “daisy chained” to support electrical equipment (e.g., one cord plugged into another cord, plugged into another cord, etc.).
