- Happy Birthday! Waunakee School District's first websites were developed 15 years ago. Here's a gallery of how the Middle School website has changed over the years.
| Middle School Website Turns 15 |
1997 In our website's first year, there wasn't always a lot of content. It took a long time to develop the need for a more complicated layout and structure. |
1999 A couple of years later the "sidebar/main body" structure was a popular format with websites in general. We already had much more content to share; Principal Shelley Weiss was a driving force behind deciding what sorts of material should be made available to the public and was an enthusiastic supporter of the MS website. |
2001 The layout in 2001 was essentially the same but an effort was made to trim out some of the wasted space at the top. Even so, the ever-growing list of content made a lot of scrolling down necessary. |
2007 In this shot from 2007 and even until we switched to the new format in 2009, the layout stayed nearly the same as it had been for almost 10 years. One difference was making a special effort to call attention to our photo galleries, always a popular destination for students and parents. |
2011 In 2009, our district switched from hosting its own website to hosting it with CMS4Schools. The old way required a lot of training and a fair amount of general computer expertise, whereas the new system is a more guided approach to creating materials. The "format" is pre-set and consistent site-wide, and each building's content is housed in the left side menu. The databases driving the entire site make it possible for multiple sites and pages to pull information from a single location (like a calendar database), which helps increase accuracy and decrease the labor of entering the same information multiple times. |
See the Middle School website as it developed over the past 15 years. From HTML & FTP, to Microsoft FrontPage, to CMS4Schools, it has been quite a journey! Though technology changes, the mission remains the same - to keep parents, students, staff and the community informed about what's going on in our school, and to provide students and staff with a gateway to educational materials.
