Prairie Elementary School recognized as State School of Character by the Wisconsin Character Education Partnership
The Wisconsin Character Education Partnership (WCEP) is pleased to announce that Prairie Elementary School in Waunakee, Wisconsin has been selected as a 2012 State School of Character. Prairie Elementary was one of two schools selected by a blue-ribbon panel for this recognition. The award, sponsored by the Wisconsin Character Education Partnership in partnership with the Character Education Partnership (CEP), honors schools for having reached a standard of excellence in the area of character development. The evaluation examines their work in encouraging the ethical, social and academic growth of their students through effective character education. Prairie Elementary School will be honored at the annual Character Conference in June.
In selecting Prairie Elementary, the blue-ribbon panel evaluated Prairie Elementary against a rubric of eleven standards; Prairie achieved a level in all standards that showed they were implementing highly effective strategies to develop the social-emotional and character development of their students. In addition, their staff is fully engaged in this effort. Some of the programs they have implemented that were highlighted were: Buddy Program, strong anti-bullying program, a Character Artist in Residence, and the use of Kelso Choices. Prairie Elementary is successfully integrating character in all aspects of the school day for students.
