We are so grateful to our PTO for supporting these fun programs and donating books for student winners during many of our fun activities.
TV Turnoff Week involves vouchers for each day the TV is turned off, and the Prize Patrol comes around with books for chosen winners. This is held near the end of April for seven days.
Six Flags involves reading at home for six hours, and students are awarded a free ticket to Six Flags. This begins in December and runs until the third week of February.
Pizza Hut is set up for goal setting by individual students, and students who reach their goal are awarded with a free pizza. This runs from October through March each year.
Dr. Seuss’ Birthday/Read Across America is March 2nd. This involves guest readers, trivia games related to Dr. Seuss books, favorite character dress up day, and reading books about different parts of the country.
Paperback Book Exchange is held during TV Turnoff Week. Students bring in used/like new paperback books, and a voucher is given for each book. Students then are able to select a “new” book to replace the ones they brought in.
Read Map Reading in the classrooms involves reading at home, and the minutes transfer to miles. The goal is to get from California to New York by the end of the school year. Then students receive a pizza party. Progress is tracked on a classroom map.

High School Programs
ACT Preparation sessions for students preparing to take the ACT are provided. The sessions are one half hour in length from 7:30 -8:00 in the morning for 2 weeks prior to the ACT testing date. All 5 sections of the ACT are reviewed through videos and practice problems.
The ninth grade Reading and Writing Workshop is a class designed to help students make the transition successfully from middle school to high school. Students in high school and college are required to read, analyze, and interpret complex content material, and this class will introduce students to reading strategies, writing strategies, test-taking strategies, and study methods to help them become successful learners. Students also engage in activities to promote effective time management, content-area specific literacy skills, and independent reading habits.
