Frequently Asked Questions about Summer Band Classes-Grades 7-12
The MS Band program offers a variety of classes that are described in detail in the Summer School Catalog. Here is additional information about our program:
Where MS Band classes?
Most MS Band classes are taught at the Middle School in the Music Suite.
The exception is that the Jazz Combo Classes are taught at the Intermediate School. Students who sign up for Jazz Combo need transportation to/ from the Intermediate School.
What are the Summer School beginning and ending dates?
Summer school runs from June 18 to July 26, 2012; Monday through Thursday; this is a six week program. We have July 4-5th vacation days.
How often are classes and how long do they last?
With the exception of Jazz Combo, MS Band classes meet one day per week for 45 minutes.
Classes start at 8:00; 8:45; 9:50; 10:40; 11:35.
Jazz Combo meets twice per week for 60 minutes.
Why is Jazz Combo different?
The teacher of the Jazz Combo classes is shared between the Beginning Band program at the Intermediate School and the MS Band program. The classes meet at the Intermediate School and follow the schedule for that building. We have found that students in this program are more successful with two rehearsals per week, and are pleased to be able to provide this opportunity for students.
What happens when my child has other summer classes?
Lessons are scheduled between 8:00 A.M. and 12:20 P.M. Please note that this schedule is an hour longer than other summer classes. We teach some lessons later than regular hours to avoid conflicts with other classes. If students are in other summer classes we will try to schedule their lesson at an open time. If we must take a student from a class we do not to take from a remedial class. If a student rides the bus they must take a full schedule of classes.
What about bus transportation?
Bus transportation is available for those who normally receive bussing. Check the summer school information on the website for general transportation information. If students ride the bus to and from summer school they will need to take a full schedule of classes.
How do we arrange for lessons?
Every student must have completed the on-line summer school registration; you will be billed in May for all summer classes and notified of class and lesson times. Please be sure to complete additional information about what instrument your child plays. Check the descriptions for details.
How do we find out our summer lesson times?
You will receive lesson times on the summer school billing invoice sent in May.
What about vacations and camps?
If you're gone for a vacation or attending a camp we try to schedule a make-up lesson. However, make-up slots are limited.
My child is in Summer Science.
Great! Please be sure to let Mr. Farnsworth know that your child is also taking Band lessons. We will coordinate our schedules to accommodate both programs. If you do not need bus transportation, or you can alternate transportation arrangements 1 day per week, we will schedule in the 11:35-12:20 slot after Summer Science. If your child must ride the bus home, we schedule lessons on Wednesdays & coordinate with the Summer Science program. The key is great communication.
