The Next LeaderThe Waunakee Community School District seeks a leader who is dynamic, inspirational and
embraces the mission of the district to promote academic growth in a diverse, supportive, and
intellectually challenging learning environment. The ideal candidate will have an accomplished
record as a leader, a thorough understanding of pedagogy, outstanding communication skills, and
a proven propensity for collaboration. The current superintendent will retire after respectfully
serving the district for 16 years as the superintendent.
The DistrictWaunakee Community School District is a state and nationally recognized public school district
located in Waunakee, WI. WCSD is located 25 minutes north of Madison, the State Capital.
WCSD has six school buildings and eight four-year-old community partnership sites. The
school district has an enrollment of 4426 students and is experiencing increasing enrollment. The
district celebrates the fact that there are more than 28 different languages represented in the
homes of their students.
WCSD has a legacy of success. All six schools performed well on the Department of Public
Instruction’s annual report card earning a district score of 80.7. In addition, the high school had an
average ACT score of 23.3. The district is committed to providing a comprehensive learning
experience for all students celebrating how each student contributes to a diverse learning
environment.
The CommunityThe Village of Waunakee is located 25 minutes north of Madison and is considered part of the
greater Madison area. The community, with a population of just under 15,000, offers a small-town
charm with remarkable conveniences. The community takes great pride in WCSD, which is the
largest employer. In November 2022, the community showed their support for a high-quality
educational experience for all by approving a $175 million capital referendum to build two new
schools. The new Heritage Elementary School is set to open in 2024 and the new middle school
will open in fall 2026. In addition, the community approved a $10 million operating referendum
aimed at recruitment and retention of teachers. The pride in the school system is unprecedented.
Not only do residents get to enjoy contemporary school spaces, but residents also enjoy a safe
community with parks, community events, restaurants, and businesses. Access to the greater
Madison area provides opportunities to explore major cultural events, sports, and recreational
activities. These amenities make WCSD and the Waunakee area premier destinations.
