Health Services

The Waunakee Community School District (WCSD) Health Services team is dedicated to supporting the well-being of our students. Our school health services team plays a vital role in supporting student well-being and academic success. The team consists of School Nurses and Health Assistants, who work together to ensure students receive the care they need throughout the school day. Together, our School Nurses and Health Assistants create a safe and supportive environment for students to learn and grow.

We work closely with students and families, healthcare providers, and school staff to ensure that every student has access to the care they need to thrive in their learning environment.

Our Mission: To provide high-quality, collaborative health care and education to WCSD students, promoting their overall well-being, safety, and success in the school community.

Our Vision: The WCSD Health Services team partners with families, staff, and the community to support students’ physical and mental health, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment where all students can learn and grow.

School NurseThe primary role of the School Nurse is to support student learning by serving as a critical link between health and education. School Nurses monitor students with chronic health conditions and develop individualized health plans to help them thrive in the classroom. Students with conditions such as ADHD, allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizure conditions and other medical needs may require care and case management by a registered nurse.

In addition to case management, School nurses also provide specialized care for students who depend on the use of medical care and technology during the school day. This includes medication administration, nebulizers, catheters, feeding tubes, glucose meters, insulin injections, and insulin pumps. Their expertise ensures students receive the necessary and safe medical care while at school.
Health AssistantHealth Assistants are an essential part of the school health team, providing daily care to students who visit the health office. Whether addressing illness, injury, or administering medications, Health Assistants help ensure students’ health needs are met under the direction of the School Nurse.

Health Assistants also play a key role in monitoring immunization records to ensure compliance with state requirements. They support School Nurses by assisting with health conditions for students on field trips, gathering required medical information, and communicating with families and staff about student health concerns.
